How To Be One With Your Acoustic Guitar

There is another side of acoustic guitar buying that I seldom hear discussed. This may be the mystical tendency.
I am one of those sentimentalists that believes the heart and spirit of the luthier is somehow imparted into his work.Often you can sense the guitar even before you see it. A guitar that was crafted in darkness will carry that darkness with it!It would not be a bad thing if your specialty is the blues. A guitar born of the heart will live heartily.

A factory or machine made acoustic guitar is not void of soul. There is not a guitar anywhere that was not first a thought in a mind. The materials in that instrument one time had a life of their own somewhere on this planet. How many years of sunshine and rain are stored in that dreadnought or solid body? Think of all the different people from the various places around the world that participated in the making of that guitar? Be honest now, how many of us get more spiritual satisfaction out of looking at a Gibson exhibition than one by dead Van-whoever at the big city art museum. I sometimes like to look at dead.

I once was visiting a local music store.I had enough money in my pocket to purchase a guitar that night. I had my mind set on a Takamine guitar. I picked it up and played it again, for the umpteenth time. I liked the looks, the sound, and the feel of this instrument but I was somehow not satisfied with it. I was feeling a bit dissatisfied with this guitar. I put the guitar down and headed towards the front door intending to leave the store empty handed. As I reached for the door handle I kind of glanced to the right and looked in the direction of the corner of the store where all the used guitars were displayed. I had been over there about 20 minutes earlier. A nice electric caught my eye but did not sway my intention to get an acoustic.
On a whim I made my way to the used guitar section that I had been in earlier that evening but this time I saw the Crafter. I did not know Crafter made quality guitars. This guitar looked well made. I knew immediately this was my soul guitar. I made that guitar mine. that guitar played music to my spirit before I saw it with my eyes.
Yes that's right, the guitar reached out to me. It may appear that I am one of those meditating chi sniffing new age sort of people.

You can call it Zen, Synchronicity, or dumb luck, or you can call it what ever. I am certain that music is a much deeper experience than just vibrations in the ear. Even while shopping for an acoustic guitar.  Happy shopping!
