The Gibson Hummingbird True Vintage Acoustic Guitar For The Fingerstyle Guitarist

Gibson first manufactured the square shouldered Hummingbird in 1960. The J-200 was the only guitar higher in the Gibson acoustic family. The Gibson Hummingbird is a visually stunning instrument which makes it a great addition to a stage performers guitarsenal. I made that word up. I like to make up words). This is why you  see artists of various musical styles such as  Jimmy Page, Marc Bolan, Keith Richards, Gram Parsons, John
McLaughlin, Sheryl Crow,  and many others using the Hummingbird. The First Lady of France was given a Gibson Hummingbird by First Lady Michelle Obama.

The Gibson Hummingbird has undergone design continued evolution since it's inception. The normally  mahogany  instrument has seen various tonewoods including quilted maple. The color has gone from the original Cherry Sunburst to the dark Tobacco Sunburst, to a natural finish, to the current Vintage Heritage Cherry Sunburst on the True Vintage edition. The sound is balanced across the scale making it a great instrument to accompany the voice. The word "velvet" is the term that comes up when discussing the sound. It responds to a wide range of technique from mild to agressive.

The nitrocellulose finish on the Gibson True Vintage Hummingbird is the result of a time consuming process during which 9 coats are applied. The result is a microscopically thin layer of nitro will breathe and let the tone wood age naturally. The beautiful Heritage Cherry Sunburst on the Sitka Spruce top is protected by the nitrocellulose finish. The round Mahogany neck supports the Madagascar Rosewood neck and 25-1/2 scale. An added attraction for the fingerstyle guitarist is the wider 1-5/8 nut width.
Couple that with the balanced velvety tone and this guitar is an excellent choice for the fingerstyle performer.
